Downtown Rotary supports beds for kids
LOCK HAVEN, PA — Laura Orndorf talked recently about the Sleep in Heavenly Peace — Lock Haven chapter and its mission to build and install free new beds for kids throughout the school district. She spoke to the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, and the Rotarians surprised her with $650 in gifts of bedding and cash.
The local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace invites everyone to help build new beds Saturday, Feb. 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., inside the old Piper factory.
Students, teachers, parents and anyone involved with local schools are especially welcome to participate in this “Keystone Central School District Build Day”. Schools and families have been generous, so much so that they made this build day possible, Laura said.
Helpers will create single beds and bunk beds for youth ages 3 through 17. The beds aren’t fully assembled until they arrive at the home where they are put together right in the bedroom.
The local chapter has a core group of 10 volunteers. Laura is president, her husband, Larry Orndorf, is build manager, and Tina Miller is delivery manager.
Register for the build day and help them fulfill SHP’s motto, “No child sleeps on the floor in our town.”
