Thompson new Central Mountain football coach
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Former Central Mountain High School football standout Travis Thompson is the new Wildcat football coach.
The Keystone Central School Board Thursday night gave its approval to the hire of Thompson, Central Mountain High School Class of 2005, as the new football coach. His selection was one of several head coaching approvals at the school board meeting. Thompson is scheduled for a session with local media on Friday.
The school district released this statement on Thompson’s selection:
Keystone Central School District and the Central Mountain High School are pleased to announce Mr. Travis Thompson as our new Head Football Coach.
Mr. Thompson showed us through a thorough head coach interview process that he was the best candidate for the position. He was one of many that made it through three rounds to be named Head Coach of the program. Travis met with current junior football players, booster club representatives, community stakeholders, our athletic training staff, and school board members to highlight his upcoming plans for the 2023-24 football season.
Mr. Thompson has spent time on the CM football staff as a defensive coordinator under Jim Renninger. He also coached at Loyalsock this past season and helped the Lancers to an 11 & 2 record. Travis plans to go through an entire process for hiring staff around him to ensure the program has the right people at every level.
Mr. Thompson’s Comments: It is an honor to be named the Head Football Coach. As an alumni, educator, community member and parent, I am proud to take over a program rich in tradition that has been such a big part of my own personal journey. I look forward to working with the players, and starting the next chapter of Central Mountain football. Go Cats!
Thompson will replace Shanon Manning as head coach. Manning stepped down at the conclusion of the 2022 season after the Wildcats went 0-10. Last year’s team was a junior-dominated squad and will return more than two dozen lettermen for the 2023 season.
Thompson is a graduate of Penn State University and is currently a facilitator at Central Mountain High School.
