Women’s Basketball Opens PSAC East Play with Big Win at Shepherd
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) scored a game-high 19 points and Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) had a monster game on the boards as the two helped power the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team to a dominating victory in the Bald Eagles 2022-23 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener. LHU’s balanced scoring and dominating night on the glass pushed The Haven to a 63-42 victory over Shepherd University (0-11, 0-6 PSAC) on the road.
With the win, Lock Haven moved to 5-6 overall and jumped back to .500 in conference play at 3-3.
Lawyer knocked down five 3-pointers (5-for-11) on the way to her game-high 19 points.
Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) added 12 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
Robinson was dominant on the boards and her sensational individual effort was a key part of Lock Haven’s double-digit win. She pulled down 16 total rebounds including 10 on the defensive side. Robinson’s 16 rebounds marked career-high for her and best individual effort for any Lock Haven player to date, this season.
The 16-rebound effort also tied the second-best individual effort by any player in the PSAC so far this season.
Lock Haven held a lopsided 51-33 advantage in rebounds.
Robinson added six points and four blocks.
Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley (Frostburg State)) helped direct the offense with six assists.
Lock Haven jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and a 22-point second quarter powered the Bald Eagles to a 39-20 lead at halftime.
A balanced scoring night saw 10 different Lock Haven players score and the Bald Eagles benefitted from 20 points off the bench.
LHU improved to 2-2 on the road and the victory helped The Haven snap a four-game losing streak.
Shepherd, an NCAA Division II Tournament team last season, played in the PSAC Semifinals a year ago. Lock Haven and Shepherd also met during the First Round of the 2020 PSAC postseason tournament. The two teams split their PSAC Eastern Division series last season.
