LH women’s basketball falls to #23 Gannon
LOCK HAVEN, PA– The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (4-6, 2-3 PSAC) returned to action after an 11-day layoff and the Bald Eagles hosted nationally-ranked Gannon University (11-2, 3-2 PSAC) Friday night. The two teams locked up in a defensive battle throughout, and in the end, No. 23 Gannon pulled away down the stretch, and escaped Thomas Fieldhouse with a 60-44 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory.
Gannon entered the contest ranked 23rd nationally in the latest D2SIDA Women’s Basketball Division II Media poll. Overall, three of Lock Haven’s last five games have come against nationally-ranked opponents.
Lock Haven trailed 33-19 at halftime, but the Bald Eagles opened the second half with a torrid pace and trailed 43-32 heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Leading the way for The Haven were Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) and Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) as each netted 11 points for Lock Haven.
Robinson was stellar all over the court and added six rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocks.
Jenadia Jordan (Lititz, Pa./Linden Hall) grabbed six boards and chipped in with five points to help paced the Bald Eagles’ effort.
Gannon was led by Samantha Pirosko. Her game-high 19 points helped the Golden Knights extend their win streak to five.
The action marked Lock Haven’s first game since a road contest at Mercyhurst on Dec. 19 and it marked the final game of 2022 for the Bald Eagles.
The Haven will return to action and open the 2023 calendar portion of this season’s schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Shepherd University. Opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 in what will be Lock Haven’s first PSAC Eastern Division clash of the 2022-23 season.
