Perry to Powerade final; Simcox edged in semis
CANONSBURG, PA – The Central Mountain wrestling team went 1-for-2 in the Friday morning semifinal round of the Powerade holiday tournament at Canon-McMillan High School.
Defending state champion Dalton Perry won his semifinal round by a 5-2 score over Jaxon Joy of Wadsworth, OH. Perry will move into the 133-pound title match against Vincent Robinson of Homewood Flossmore, Ill.
Teammate Luke Simcox was edged out, 4-3, in his 139-pound semifinal by Ryan Bennett of St. Edwards, OH. The loss, first of the season for the Wildcat junior, dropped him into the consolations; he’ll finish somewhere between third and sixth place.
The Wildcats’ final Friday participant, Rocco Serafini at 189 pounds, lost his sixth-round consolation bout to Brody Evans of Waynesburg by a 5-2 score. The CM junior went 3-2 in the rugged tournament.
Central Mountain is in 14th place with 70.5 points. Wyoming Seminary leads the team race with 199.5 points, Malvern Prep second with 165. State College is 12th with 73 points.
