Mifflinburg Lady ‘Cats down CM Lady ‘Cats
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – An 11-point first period deficit proved to be too much for the Central Mountain girls’ basketball team Tuesday night. The visiting Lady Wildcats of Mifflinburg used a 14-3 first quarter margin, increased the lead to 16 at half time at 27-11, then held off the home team in the second half, posting a 46-38 win over coach Scott Baker’s squad.
Ava Doyle was the offensive story for CM, going 7-for-9 from the field, including 1-for-1 from 3-point range, ending with 16 points; she also led the Lady Wildcats with 7 rebounds. Kiahna Jones was next with 9 points, followed by Taylor Doyle with 7, Danica Kelly with 4 and Lena Walker with 2.
Jones and Kelly each had 6 rebounds and Jones blocked 7 Mifflinburg shots. The team did pick up 25 rebounds and 12 steals but was hampered by 23 turnovers.
The loss dropped CM to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in the Heartland Conference. Mifflinburg is 2-0 with the win. Central Mountain is scheduled to travel to Milton (0-3) Thursday night, weather permitting.
CM won the JV contest 36-24 to go to 4-0 on the season. Jacey Tripp and Aubrey Eiler each had 13 points.
