Wagner, Lowery lead Lady Bucks to third-straight victory

By Bees O’Brien

BENTON, PA- Mak Wagner scored 20-plus points for the second straight game and Alexis Lowery recorded a double-double as Bucktail blew by Benton 46-29 to improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in Mid Penn Conference play Wednesday night.

The Lady Bucks lead right out of the gate as they built a 13-6 lead on the Lady Tigers. A 14-5 second quarter had Bucktail up 27-11 at the break.

It was more Lady Bucks in the third quarter. A 10-5 advantage swelled Bucktail’s lead to 37-16 heading into the final quarter of play. Benton outscored Bucktail 13-9 in the game’s final quarter to set the 46-29 final.

Last season Benton swept Bucktail, which included a controversial delayed clock start in overtime at Benton that cost the Lady Bucks. Bucktail left no chance in that happening again, as they dominated from the opening tip.

Mak Wagner led all scorers with 25 points. Wagner also added 4 steals on the night. Alexis Lowery would score 10 points and grab a season-high 13 rebounds.

The Lady Bucks will next be in action on Friday, Dec. 16 when they host District 4 1A contender St. John Neumann in Farwell. The Lady Knights were a PIAA state playoff team qualifier and are expected to be a big challenge for Bucktail.
