LHU Men’s Basketball Powers Past Seton Hill; Nestor Claims All-Time Wins Record
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team (5-1, 1-0 PSAC) pulled away in the second half for a 74-55 victory over visiting Seton Hill University (5-2, 0-1 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Friday night.
With the win, head coach Mike Nestor notched his 106th career win, and secured his place atop the record books in Lock Haven men’s basketball history. He becomes the all-time leader in wins passing Dave Blank, who led the Bald Eagles from 1988 to 1995.
In what proved to be a high-paced contest all night long, the two sides traded blows early in the first half. LHU grabbed an early 14-7 lead, but the Griffins closed the final ten minutes of the half in style to take a 34-26 advantage into the break.
The Bald Eagles came out of halftime on fire and wasted no time take the lead 39-38 at the 15-minute mark. Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) scored 11 points in the 12-4 LHU run to catapult The Haven ahead.
Over the final 14 minutes, the Bald Eagles slowly but surely stretched their lead and pulled away for the win behind a stifling defensive effort.
Davis led all scorers with 22 points on the night on a stellar 8-13 from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. The senior also hauled in 10 rebounds on the night to gather his first double-double of the season.
Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) joined Davis in double digits chipping in 15 and 12, respectively. Montague also added 10 boards for his first double-double on the year, while Washington grabbed eight rebounds of his own.
As a team, Lock Haven held the Griffins to just 37 percent from the field, while forcing 22 total turnovers.
Defensively, Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School (Saint Michael’s)) made his presence felt and led the way with two blocks and two steals. Gorham also totaled eight points.
The Haven held a slight 40-37 advantage in rebounding, and totaled 11 assists on 27 made field goals. Montague led all players with four dimes on the night.
