Optimist Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

As I was listening to the news this past week, they reported about the three American soldiers, that had volunteered to go help in the Ukraine situation, were now missing in action!

MIA’s… sometimes we forget to honor those number of unaccounted service men or women from passed wars! There are probably many who have not even fought in a war that our American military fought in that are still missing, so it leaves us concerned about whether these particular soldiers will be found, freed and sent home.

Missing in action; as we think about our spiritual situation in our world, we realize that God has people that belong to His family that are now MIAs! Perhaps there are fellow Christians who grew up reading the Bible, or going to church and Sunday school at some point in their lives, but they are unfortunately not that close to Jesus any more. It’s not that they are against God, or don’t believe in Jesus, but maybe they are just doing their own thing right now. There are many things pulling us away from church these days and the enemy is certainly there to keep us away from God’s people or from God‘s word every chance he gets.

That doesn’t mean that God has abandoned us or those who have drifted away. He is right there with every single one of us. God never leaves us, or forsakes us. He just wants a little worship time, a little prayer once in a while to say thanks for being there through every step of the way. Any little bit of time we have to spend with God, He appreciates it.

Just as we will never forget those MIA‘s, God reminds us that we are not forgotten. Maybe someone you love for care about is spiritually missing an action. Pray for them because God is caring for their needs just as He is yours.
Pray for the safety of those brave Americans who have gone thousands of miles away to help defend our Ukrainian neighbors. There is power in prayer and there is power in numbers.
