Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

Jesus and his disciples were at the temple in Jerusalem. When he looked up, he saw some wealthy men putting their money into the treasury box. He also saw a poor widow put in two small coins.

It was then that Jesus made this observation: “Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow has cast in more than all the others.”

What he meant was that they had given their offering to God. “of their abundance.” But the poor widow had given “of her poverty.” It was everything she had, and she gave it to the Lord. (Luke 21: 1-4 )

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, thanked the church for the offering that was sent to him. He called it an acceptable sacrifice that was well pleasing to him and the Lord.

He then gave to the Philippians a wonderful promise. Because they had given to supply what Paul needed, God would also meet their needs.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Jesus Christ” (4:19).

He does not give from what he has, but according to what he has. “For out of His infinite riches in Jesus He giveth and giveth and giveth again.
