Pa. GOP U.S. Senate race likely to trigger a recount

HARRISBURG, PA – With less than a percentage point separating Trump-endorsed celebrity heart surgeon Mehmet Oz and former hedge fund CEO David McCormick as they vie for the Republican Party’s nomination for U.S. Senate, the race is likely to see a recount.

As of Thursday morning, unofficial and incomplete results show the candidates within the 0.5 percent margin needed to trigger an automatic recount in Pennsylvania.

Oz, who received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, had earned 416,785 votes, and McCormick, who received an anti-endorsement from the former president but still ran as an “America First” candidate, garnered 415,533 votes as of Thursday morning — a difference of 0.1 percent or 1,241 votes.

The contest is too close to call. And some counties are still tabulating mail-in ballots.

The winner of the GOP race, which includes seven candidates, will face Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, who swiftly secured his party’s nomination on Election Night.
