HARRISBURG, PA – Multiple media sources are reporting Republican Jake Corman, the state Senate president pro tempore from Bellefonte, will on Tuesday be filing the necessary paperwork with Commonwealth Court to remove his name from the May 17 Republican primary ballot for governor.

Both pennlive.com and the Philadelphia Inquirer site a source familiar with the campaign.

Corman’s departure drops the GOP field to eight in next month’s primary. Present state Attorney General Josh Shapiro is the presumed Democratic Party nominee.

Corman, 57, has been serving in the state Senate since 1998, succeeding his late father, J. Doyle Corman. The younger Corman had become Senate president pro tempore last year.
