2008 Wildcat baseball team inducted into Central Mountain Sports Hall of Fame

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The halftime at Friday night’s Central Mountain girls’ basketball game saw a special ceremony: induction of the Wildcat baseball team from 2008 into the Central Mountain Sports Hall of Fame.

Nine of the 13 team members were present for the recognition. Squad members were Colton Stover, Matt McGhee. Zach Rote, Ryan Worden. Seth Lowery, Cody Dolan, Ryan Watkins, Scott Zuback, Curt Harpster, Larry Bechdel, Anthony Houser, Brett Heggenstaller, and James Gallagher. Mike Kramer was the head coach, assistants Tyler Barth and Bob Barth.

The unprecedented list of accomplishments of the 2008 team includes:

Overall 16-7 record.

  • Mountain League Champions 2008.
  • First-ever District 6 championship in baseball among Lock Haven, BEN, Sugar Valley, and Central Mountain (58 years) That win came over Hollidaysburg 5-3 in the District 6 Finals.
  • PIAA 4A State Final Four – Semi-Finalist.
  • Broke Central Mountain High School records for…
    • Team wins (16)
    • Team runs (148)
    • hits (181)
    • RBI’s (122)
    • triples (14)
    • stolen bases (42)
    • Team Pitching ERA (3.45)
    • Pitcher’s most K’s 118
    • the least amount of errors (34)
  • Six players had over 20 hits.
  • Seven players batted over .300.
  • First baseball team to win a district playoff and state playoff game.
  • First baseball team to win a league Championship Mountain League.
  • Out of the 13 players, 9 players made an all-conference team.
  • Two players made all-state.
  • Six players played baseball in college – McGhee, Dolan, Watkins, Harpster, Rote and Zuback.
  • Tom Fox coined the phrase “Mill Hall Magic” with this team, due to the comeback wins at Mill Hall in the bottom of the 7 . It has stuck ever since for CM baseball.
