Griffins ruin Senior Day for LHU football, 59-7
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven University football team (1-10) closed the 2021 season Saturday by hosting Seton Hill University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover. The visiting Griffins picked up the victory, 59-7. For the Bald Eagles it was loss number ten in a row after a season-opening victory.
Prior the start of the game, head coach John Kelling and the LHU football program honored their eight graduating seniors: Alex Lantz (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), Ethan Persa (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), Zackary Rex (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), Kareem Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street), Chris Anderson (Somerset, N.J./Franklin), Anthony Barber (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown), Erik Mann (York, Pa./York) and Monte Jones (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary’s). The game also marked LHU’s annual Veterans Appreciation game.
Seton Hill connected on a 50-yard pass-touchdown on just the second Griffins offensive play of the game and it helped them open a 23-0 lead after the opening quarter. The visitors led 49-7 at halftime on the way to their fifth win of the season (5-6).
Persa – a senior-quarterback honored in the pregame – followed up last week’s career outing with 145 yards through the air and one touchdown.
Persa connected with Isiah Gonzalez (Philadelphia/Olney) on a 13-yard pass play for a Haven TD. After the catch, Gonzalez made several good moves before finding the end zone and putting the Bald Eagles on the scoreboard early in the second quarter.
Chris Hicks (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) hauled in four catches for Lock Haven, while both Davis – a senior – and Gonzalez finished with three catches each.
For Seton Hill, Logan Wiland ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns and Jake McCormick threw for 116 yards and two TDs.
Markel Morgan (Philadelphia/John Bartram) led the defense with two interceptions.
Shane Scott (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished with six tackles and Jones – a senior – also added six stops in a strong effort.
