Lady ‘Cat booters continue improvement with win at DuBois

DUBOIS, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat soccer team traveled to DuBois on Thursday and took home their third win on the season. A first half goal that started from the back, Jaz Anderson picked up the ball and played a fantastic ball into space for Lily Hendricks to run onto. Hendricks slammed the ball out of the reach of the DuBois Area goalkeeper for the night’s only goal of the game. Movement on and off the ball was good and the Lady Cats took care of the ball.

The second half was a bit more scrappy and the Lady Cats struggled to get their foot on the ball. Strong defensive play by Mia Kopysciansky, Taylor Campbell, Ava Bair, Kylie Quiggle and Emily Short kept the home side contained. Madison Briggs stood on her head with some great reaction saves to record her third shutout of the season.

The JV team followed with their own 1-0 score as Elise Cygan received a ball from Danica Kelly and netted the only goal of the game. A continuous attack, the Lady Cats couldn’t get a second goal but strong defensive presence and the play in the attacking third allowed the visiting team to secure the win.

‘Cat Coach Ryan Veltri was pleased with the showing: “This was a big win for both groups as three games in three consecutive days put the Lady Wildcats in a grinder. A well deserved win, a total team effort, and a few smiles made the karaoke performance on the way home much more dynamic!”

Back at it on Saturday as the Junior High team will be the opening game at Malinak Stadium. The Junior High makes their first appearance on the home turf and will be kicking off at 6:00. The Varsity will follow with Altoona, a 7 p.m. kick-off.
