CM girls’ soccer edge Penns Valley, 1-0

SPRING MILLS, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat Soccer team took to the road and met up with Penns Valley on Saturday. An old rivalry did not disappoint as the Lady Wildcats (2-8) and Lady Rams (5-6) battled as the action went back and forth with both teams having scoring chances.

As the game was winding down and overtime looked as if it could be the deciding factor, the Lady Wildcats snuck a goal in. With just under four minutes of play, a ball was played into the box with a bunch of players crashing the goal. As the ball was played into the box it was redirected by Lily Hendricks and it found the back of the net. Lily, in her first action after returning from an injury found herself netting her first goal of the season.

Madison Briggs secured her second clean sheet of the season. A strong defensive unit helped limit chances on goal.

With defensive organization, game management and courage, the Lady Cats earned their second win of the season. The Lady Wildcats were up against a difficult side as their head coach, Andrew Beverly, once a coach for Central Mountain Lady Wildcats is all too familiar with the tactics and game plan of the Lady Cats as he was essential in the success of the program in the past. CM Coach Ryan Veltri said, “The Lady Wildcats certainly had a tough mountain to climb but were patient, played intelligent and worked hard for each other to bring home a well deserved win. This was a game that the Lady Wildcats did the little things right! With a tough week ahead, this will give the Lady Cats some confidence heading into a four game grind.”

The JV team also recorded a win and solidified a clean sheet. Elise Cygan and Danica Kelly each netted a goal in each half and Kiahna Jones recorded a shutout to make it two for two on the day.

The Lady Wildcats also celebrated a special day as assistant coach Johnna Garbrick was getting married. The current Lady Cats had a special FaceTime call with Johnna and three Lady Wildcat alumni in Taylor St. John, Shelbe Walker Brungard and Jamey Renninger. Team members said, “Congratulations Mrs. Johnna Harris!!”
