Wildcat wrestlers make representative showing in Fargo

FARGO, ND – Central Mountain’s four-member delegation gave a solid account of themselves at last week’s USA Wrestling Nationals at the FargoDome. Soon-to-be freshman Dalton Perry led the local showing, earning All-American status with a seventh place showing in the 16u 120 pound bracket, a weight with 107 participants.

Soon-to-be sophomore Griffin Walizer went 4-2 in the Greco-Roman division at 145 pounds and was leading 8-0 in a bout to assure All-American status when he suffered an elbow injury and was eliminated. Incoming senior Taylor Weaver finished with a 2-2 mark in Greco wrestling and also had a 2-2 mark in freestyle, as did incoming sophomore Luke Simcox.

Wildcat head wrestling coach Biff Walizer was pleased with what he saw from the week in Fargo: “I am very proud of Dalton, Luke, Taylor and Griffin for their willingness to take a week out of their summer to travel and compete in the toughest tournament in the country; all of them coming away with multiple wins. That attitude and willingness to take on the best is what will take them and our team to the next level.”

He said he hopes to have more Wildcat wrestlers competing in Fargo next summer.

Walizer related it was not all work, noting the Wildcat contingent was able to attend a minor league baseball game, play some miniature golf and test their skills at a go-kart track.
