Young Wildcats Fall to Unbeaten Shamokin
By Joe Walker
SHAMOKIN- Last week the Shamokin Indians surprised some local fans when they defeated the talented Jersey Shore Bulldogs, but Friday night the Indians showed that was not fluke as they manhandled a young Central Mountain Wildcat squad by a resounding 76-0 score on the Indians Homecoming.
The undefeated Indians scored the first ten times they had the ball as they racked up 528 total yards offense and held the young Wildcats to 139 yards total offense. The Wildcats hurt themselves with four turnovers, which the Indians tallied 28 points off those turnovers.
The Indians led 35-0 after one quarter and took a 63-0 into the locker room at halftime. The second half was played under the mercy rule, as both teams put in the reserves to give them some playing experience. The Indians took kneel downs their last two drives to show some good sportsmanship.
Senior Jake Weaver led the Wildcat rushers with 66 yards on 10 carries, while junior Jacob Nyman added 31 yards on 8 carries. Kyhe Kissell had 23 yards on four carries and sophomore Gavin Edmonston added 19 yards on five carries. Senior Isiah Maldonaldo was 4 of 8 passing for just 15 yards and had one interception. Senior Bryce Brungard with two catches for 11 yards.
Za’Kem Clinton led the Indians rushing attack with 133 yards on 5 carries, while Jayce Ginck had 101 yards on just four carries. Freshman Trey Taylor had 69 yards on five carries, while freshmen reserve quarterback 56 yards on seven carries, but three of those carries were for lost yardage by taking kneel downs. Sophomore quarterback Logan Steele was 3 of 5 passing for 85 yards and a TD.
The Wildcats will be back home next Friday night, as they will host the Shikellamy Braves in the Wildcats Homecoming game. Both teams enter the contest with 0-5 records and 0-3 in the Heartland Conference. The Braves fell to the Bulldogs of Jersey Shore 63-13 on Friday night.
