Lou’s View 7/8
PARANORMAL AT PIPER
By Lou Bernard
Anyone want to learn how to investigate the paranormal? I’ll be doing a fundraiser at the Piper Museum. I’m going to teach a class on how to investigate the paranormal on July 10, from 7 to 9 PM. I’m talking about how to responsibly, scientifically investigate ghosts, and for the first time, I’m going to be teaching UFOs, too.
Sound interesting? For ten bucks a person, you can join me there.
It’s open to the public, and all money will be donated to the Piper Museum. I spent some time helping out at the Piper Museum a few years ago, and the place is thought to be haunted. People have had some odd experiences in the museum, so you never know, maybe we’re going to find some evidence.
As for the UFOs, well, I thought I’d add them, too, as they’re in the air with the Piper planes. It’s the first time I’ve ever taught UFO investigation in a fundraiser, so everyone gets to come to this historic event. And there’s some precedent for it—Piper planes have encountered UFOs, and maybe even caused a few sightings.
Let me tell you about the Gorman Incident.
In 1948, over Fargo, North Dakota, WWII pilot George Gorman spotted two things: An unusual, blinking light, and a Piper Cub. The light wasn’t easily identifiable, whereas the Cub definitely was—That yellow color was chosen by William Piper for that specific purpose. Gorman was able to contrast the two, and recognize just how little he could identify the UFO by comparing it to how much the Cub stood out.
Gorman tried to catch up to the object, got close and even chased it, but was never able to identify it.
There have been many other incidents of Piper planes spotting UFOs, For some reason, the Piper Navajo seems to be a UFO magnet; there are a lot of cases of Navajos reporting UFOs. (it is important, for purposes of this article, to clarify that “UFO” and “aliens landing in the streets” are NOT the same thing. I’ll also be covering this in the fundraiser, but a UFO simply means an unknown thing in the sky.)
Piper has even caused a few of these sightings. In 1952, five men on the east end of Lock Haven reported seeing a thing in the sky, over the mountains. It was described as “metallic and round,” and it floated around for a while, and then shot southwest, out of sight. They never did figure out what it was.
But maybe I have. In the archives, I’ve found old photos of the X-27A.
The X-27A was a Piper prototype for the military. It was metal, rounded, and somewhat cigar-shaped with weird wings. Piper created one and tested it, but never got the military contract. The UFO sighting, however, would have been almost exactly when the men reported seeing the metal thing flying around in the sky, on the east end, which you may remember is down near Piper.
built a UFO, essentially, and caused a UFO sighting.
That’s the kind of thing you want to look for, when you hear a UFO report: Other explanations, things that might have caused the sighting. I’ll be talking about how to do that at the fundraiser, and teaching methods of investigation. I’m going to cover both ghosts and UFOs thoroughly, and teach how to check into both of them.
Does this sound interesting to you? Come and join me. Bring ten bucks to donate to the Piper Museum. I’d love to see you there.
