Words of Grace – Sept. 11, 2014
A kingdom is the domain of a king. There cannot be a kingdom without a king. When Jesus told Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world,” the Roman Governor wanted to know if Jesus was a king.
When Pilate asked, “Art thou a king then?” Jesus did not directly answer the question. He did, however, give to him the reason why he was here on earth.
“To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.” It was then that Pilate asked the age-old question: “What is truth?” (John 18:38)
After a morning church service a man who was in the congregation stopped the pastor, Chuck Swindoll, and said, “I’ve waited until the end to talk to you, because I’ve got a question that may take a long time to answer.”
The man went on to say, “I’ve heard you talk, and I’ve listened to you preach about the truth. What do you mean when you refer to the truth? I want to know from you, what is the truth?
Swindoll noticed that he was standing with his arms folded, hugging a Bible to his chest. To make a point, he punched the cover of the man’s Bible and said, “Everything within the covers of that Book is the truth.”
