Clinton County: Digging Out

RENOVO, PA – The Renovo area was particularly hard hit by the Wednesday nor’easter that dumped over two feet of snow in parts of Clinton County. The storm briefly left Renovo cut off because of snow slides over the roadways into and out of the borough.

The Renovo Road was closed overnight, but the most recent report said one-lane traffic is open between Renovo and Lock Haven. There was a 4-foot slide over the road near Bakers Run. Route 120 on the north side of the borough was reported still closed at mid-morning due to a large snow slide near the Green Lantern and a PennDOT truck was said to be stuck. The Halls Run and Hyner Mountain Roads were closed. A South Renovo resident measured 28 inches of snow in her yard.

Interstate 80 westbound remains shut down as the clean-up continues from a Wednesday afternoon crash involving a reported 30 vehicles, a mishap which left at least two people dead, according to the initial reports. The Clinton County Commissioners, at their Thursday meeting, offered thanks to first responders. Commissioner Angela Harding termed them “heroes in our community” for the sacrifices they made. Harding said some 26 first responder units have been involved in the accident response, coming from Clinton, Centre, Lycoming and Union Counties.

Smith Furniture in Dunnstown had its showroom roof collapse in the overnight period.

Thursday morning saw the area slowly digging out from the winter onslaught. Sunny skies with temperatures at or above the freezing mark are expected for the next couple days in the county.
