Nor ‘easter Causes Death, Destruction
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The sun came up Thursday morning but the dig-out was just beginning from a hellacious Wednesday storm which dumped up to 20 inches of snow in parts of Clinton County.
It was a classic nor’easter that left in its wake at least two people dead, the result of a huge vehicle pile-up on Interstate 80 two miles west of the Loganton Exit. I-80 remains closed Thursday morning as the clean-up and investigation continues. There are also unconfirmed reports of vehicles stuck on Route 120, the Renovo Road, in-between snow slides along the roadway. The heavy snow is also reported to have collapsed the roof at Smith Furniture along Woodward Avenue in Dunnstown.
The snow began over Clinton County around noon on Wednesday and continued well into the early morning hours of Thursday. Snow accumulations in the county trended towards the high side or exceeded the predicted 12 to 18 inches from the National Weather Service office in State College. Wednesday night also saw an NWS alert about unusually heavy snow bands dropping large additional amounts in the Renovo area.
Thursday morning saw the area slowly digging out from the winter onslaught. Sunny skies with temperatures at or above the freezing mark are expected for the next couple days in the county.
