Programs for the Week of June 22nd, 2020 at Little Pine State Park
(Waterville) – Little Pine State Park will have programs on “Atlatls” on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 2:30 PM and at 4:30 PM. Join the Park Staff as they educate you on a weapon that pre-dates the bow and arrow. The Atlatl was once one of the most widely distributed tools during ancient times and is still widely used today. Join us for this introductory lesson to learn atlatl history, basic techniques and safety. After a short discussion, participants will have the opportunity to use the Atlatl and take part in a fun competition to see who is the most accurate. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Also, all participants will need to follow the CDC Guidelines and have a mask with them in order to attend the programs. The programs will be registration only, and may be cancelled in the event of severe weather. Registrations will be taken by calling 570-753-6005, or by going to DCNR’s calendar of events. Little Pine State Park is having a program called “Flight of the Bats” at 8:30 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2020. This program will be focusing on some of the bats’ adaptations, some myths about bats, and a fungus that is threatening their population. There will also be a bat count, weather permitting. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Also, all participants will need to follow the CDC Guidelines and have a mask with them in order to attend this program. This program will be registration only, and may be cancelled in the event of severe weather. Please make sure to register in a group if more than one person is coming. On Sunday, June 28, 2020, at 10:00 AM and at 1:30 PM, join the naturalist for a program about the “Terrific Turtles” at Little Pine State Park. Some of the topics that will be covered include different turtles that are found in Pennsylvania, their adaptations, and their diet. This program will also have a craft. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Also, all participants will need to follow the CDC Guidelines and have a mask with them in order to attend the programs. The programs will be registration only, and may be cancelled in the event of severe weather. Registrations will be taken by calling 570-753-6005, or by going to DCNR’s calendar of events.
