Dorothy L. “Sis” Ransdorf – Obituary

Dorothy L. “Sis”  Ransdorf, 91, died February 12, 2020, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Jersey Shore where she resided for the last 16 months.  She was a former resident of South Renovo.

Born October 1, 1928, in Chapman Township, she was the daughter  of the late Richard and Eva Benton Newlen.

In July 1965, in Erie, she married William R. Ransdorf, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Dorothy worked as a clerk in Goldberg’s store in South Renovo. After the store closed she went to work at Weis Markets in Renovo, and worked there until her retirement.

She enjoyed bowling, line dancing and playing bingo. She served on the South Renovo election board. She also enjoyed water aerobics.  She loved to cook and was most known for her coconut cream pies.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Renovo.

Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Renovo High School.

She is survived by a son, James W. Bauer of Renovo; two daughters, Debra J. (William L., Jr.) Probst of North Bend and Joyce A (John) Stewart of Hyner. Three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Carl, Charles, Eugene & Jesse Newlen, a sister Virginia Newlen Darrin and a daughter-in-law, Debra Bauer.

The family would like to thank the staff at Jersey Shore Manor Care for the excellent care during her residency there.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 11 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, Seventh Street, Renovo, PA   with Martha Sykes officiating.  The family will provide flowers and suggests memorial contributions to either the First United Methodist Church or the Renovo Library through the funeral home.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Dean K. Wetzler, Jr.  Funeral Home, 320 Main Street, Mill Hall.
