Wildcats Outlast Bulldogs, 1-0

JERSEY SHORE – In a tightly fought intense contest, Central Mountain pulled out a 1-0 PHAC road win over rival Jersey Shore in high school boys’ soccer.

The Wildcats scored 18:32 into the game and held on for the win. The shot came off a crisp passs by Chase Young that allowed a sprinting Trey Gentzel a one-on-one attack of ‘Shore’s keeper, Logan Bailey who played the ball well under the circumstances but the shot found the back of the net.

There was plenty of intensity and aggressive play and there were a number of fouls on both teams, however, those infractions came from effort and not frustration.

It was dead even for shots on goal with 5 from each team and the Bulldogs had a slight 2-1 edge on corner kicks.

Gentzel and Nate Brinker had 2 shots each and Alec Leuthold had one shot for CM while Connor Cornelius had 3 shots for the ‘Dawgs with Carter Stackhouse adding 2 more shots for Jersey Shore.

Bailey had 5 saves in the game for Jersey Shore while Greg Walizer also made 5 saves for Central Mountain.

The win takes the Wildcats to 4-4 on the year, 4-2 in the PHAC. The Bulldogs move to 4-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 in conference play.

Jersey Shore will be next tested on the road at Selinsgrove on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 while the ‘Cats will host Williamsport on the same night.
