Lock Haven’s Rock Ledge Commons Still Closed after “Major Flood”

LOCK HAVEN – A city hill district apartment building remains vacated after it was emptied last month due to a sprinkler system accident.

Residents of Rock Ledge Commons at 481 W. Fourth St. were relocated to other housing after the dousing in mid-August. The building is a 3-story structure containing 34 units of subsidized housing for low-income seniors and persons with disabilities.

Rock Ledge is operated by Warrior Run Development Company of Turbotville. A spokesperson there said the accident caused “a major flood.”

She said that building occupants were relocated to hotels, residences of family members, some tenants finding temporary shelter with relatives in units operated by the Clinton County Housing Authority. Because the Little League World Series was going on at the time of the accident, some of those displaced have been lodged in hotels far beyond the Lock Haven – Williamsport area.

The building sprinkler system was activated when a delivery was being made to a third floor apartment and a piece of furniture hit a sprinkler head which activated the sprinkler system.

The building’s front door contains a “caution” sign and a work crew from a Northumberland County contracting firm was on site this week, the building vacant of any occupants. The spokesperson said residents should be able to return later this month. She had no estimate on the monetary loss in the incident.
