‘Cats Fall to ‘Sock in Early Game at Ty Younkin Memorial Tournament
WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – It was a tough 2019 season opener for the Wildcat boys’ soccer team at the Ty Younkin Memorial Tournament at West Branch Fields.
The ‘Cats fell to Loyalsock 4-2 in their early game under a bright late summer sun. ‘Sock picked up their first goal just a few minutes into the contest on a sharpely kicked crossing shot that found the goal near the far post for a 1-0 lead. The Lancers went up 2-0 just before intermission and held on to that advantage at the break.
Early in the second period Jeremiah Thomas scored CM’s first goal to narrow the gap to 2-1 but Loyalsock would not relent tacking on another score about mid-way through the second stanza. The Lancers added on another point with a goal just minutes later. ‘Sock was a bit congenial to their hosts when an errant head shot by one of the Lancers found it’s way into the Central Mountain goal for a Wildcat score to set the final tally at 4-2.
Central Mountain is set to take on State College at 4:45 p.m. today for their second round game.
