Herbert E. Probst Jr. – Obituary
Herbert E. Probst Jr., 72, a former resident of Little Italee passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at Manor Care in Jersey Shore where he was a resident.
He was born December 17, 1946 in Williamsport to the late Herbert E. Probst, Sr. and Bessie (Arndt) Butler.
Herb was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy; where he served in the Vietnam War. He was stationed onboard the USS Turner Joy (DD-951) which engaged in active conflict during Operation Sea Dragon off the coast of North Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 bronze star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After his Military Service; he began a career as a carpenter & general contractor which spanned over 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting & fishing with his step father, Paul H. Butler and he was an avid wood worker. His passions were listening to County Music, reading Civil War books, spending time with family & friends and of course going to see his beloved New York Yankees with his sons. But perhaps his most favorite thing in the world was simply going to his backyard and sitting out on the “creek beach” as he called it, along Young Woman’s creek where he was born & raised and enjoying a hot cup of coffee or an ice cold beer.
He was a 41 year member of the American Legion
He is survived by two sons, Herbert (Tina) Probst III, Lock Haven and James Sawdey, Syracuse NY, four daughters, Lynn (Andrew) Gavlock, South Renovo, Lucretia Getz, Renovo, Ann Getz, Renovo and Kristen Probst, Bellefonte, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by five sisters; Ruby (John) Schmidt of Ephrata and Linda Butler of North Carolina, Deb (Robert) Clarke of Ephrata, Brenda Probst Frear of Wilkes-Barre and Delores Ramm of Mechanicsburg. Also seven brothers; Danny (Jean) Probst of Trout Run, Rick (Ada) Probst of Mill Hall, Fred Probst of Clearfield, Harvey (Kim) Probst of Lock Haven, Randy Probst of Somerset, Rob (Terri) Probst of North Bend and James (Janette) Summerson of North Carolina.
Many nieces and nephews survive him.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jenny Louise and two brothers, Hilary and Harry.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
