Dickey Elementary Has a Big Heart

LOCK HAVEN – Dickey Elementary School students, Title 1 staff, and faculty recently teamed up with the Clinton County Women’s Center and collected non-perishables for the center.

The collection was organized around Valentine’s Day and was an effort to not only help the center, but show the community that “Dickey Does Care.” Each day a student brought in an item, a paper heart with their name was hung on the wall. The goal was to create a huge heart collage. Dickey Elementary houses 280 students.

“The goal was to collect 280 food items for the Women’s Center,” said Marie Snyder, Title 1 teacher. But Dickey students and families went well beyond that goal and collected 464 non-perishable items for the organization. “My fellow teachers and I wanted to do something for the community after we read that food pantries diminish after the holiday season” said Snyder. “It was team effort. The staff, students, and families all worked together to make this happen and we are thrilled to be able to give back” she continued.

The Clinton County Women’s Center is a non-profit that provides a safe shelter, 24 hour hotline, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, support groups, and more for victims of personal and institutional violence.
