Barriers Erected at Farwell School Complex
FARWELL – About the time last week that community members had expressed concern about a “suspicious person” in the Renovo area, the Keystone Central School District moved to install barriers at the entranceways to the Bucktail High School and Renovo Elementary School.
Asked about the addition of the barriers at the entrances to the two schools, interim superintendent Dr. Al Lonoconus told therecord-online he would offer a report on that action at this Thursday’s school board meeting.
The concrete barriers were put in place while police were searching for John Edward Meyers, 64, from Loganville, York County. He was ultimately apprehended in his home county last Friday and returned to Clinton County and arraigned on possession of a firearm prohibited and simple assault. Meyers was remanded to the county correctional facility with bail denied for “mental issues.”
Relative to police protection in Chapman Township, where the schools are located, therecord-online has learned that Renovo police provide patrols in the township and respond to calls from township residents. A Renovo borough official said Chapman Township entered into the police protection agreement in May of last year and the two municipalities have agreed to continue the agreement through the end of 2019.
School district officials had announced last year that state police also would be increasing their visits to the school complex.
