LHU Football Falls to No. 19 Kutztown, 41-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – No. 19 Kutztown University (6-0, 3-0 PSAC East) used a big first half to secure a, 41-0, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division win Saturday over the visiting Lock Haven University football team (1-6, 1-2 PSAC East) at Kutztown’s Andre Reed Stadium.
Highlighting Lock Haven’s offensive unit was sophomore running back Chantz Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata H.S.), who rushed for 112 yards, which left him just shy of his career-high (120).

LHU quarterbacks Cameron Tobias (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) and Ethan Persa (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) threw for 104 and 90 yards, respectively. Nysir Minney-Gratz (Easton, Pa./Easton) hauled in six catches, while Jalen Jackson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Brian Greene (Milesburg, Pa./Bald Eagle) finished with four and three receptions, respectively.

Defensively, Alex Welch (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) and Donate Mason (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) were outstanding for Lock Haven, and each finished with 13 tackles. Welch had 13 tackles, including six solo stops to go along with two tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Mason had 13 tackles (6 solo) and Kahari Whitfield (Reading, Pa./Reading) added a nine-tackle effort for Lock Haven.

The Golden Bear scored all 41 points in the first half and Kutztown improved to 6-0 with the win. KU quarterback Collin DiGalbo threw for 203 yards and one touchdown, and he rushed for one score to spark an offensive attack that racked up four total rushing TDs.

LHU will return to action next Saturday, October 20 when the Bald Eagles host their annual Homecoming game. Lock Haven will play host to local-rival Bloomsburg University at 12 p.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium. Lock Haven has won two straight over Bloomsburg and the Bald Eagles have won three of their last five Homecoming games. Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Dave Taynor, LHU is 2-1 vs. Bloomsburg and Taynor is 2-1 at Lock Haven on Homecoming.
