Wildcat Boys’ Soccer Falls to Williamsport, 3-0
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP ā The Central Mountain boys’ soccer team played their second game of the week on the pitch at Malinak Stadium Thursday night coming up short in a hard-fought 3-0 loss to visiting Williamsport.
Once again, the Wildcats kept pace with their opponent in an aggressively played contest that was cleanly played with only a few fouls. Williamsport was called for 4 infractions while CM had only 3 fouls.
There was a lot of back-and-forth action in the early going with the Millionaires bringing fast-paced pressure and Central Mountain kept stride with their guests until 9:52 remaining in the first period when Williamsport found the back of the net on a text book crossing pass that was drilled in on the opposite post.
With a 1-0 lead, Williamsport kept the pace brisk and scored their second goal of the night with 2:13 on the clock to hold a 2-0 lead over the ‘Cats at intermission.
The second period was more of the same with both teams maintaining a high level of intensity trading scoring attempts when they were presented. Williamsport tacked on an insurance goal to take the 3-0 lead with 24:16 remaining in the game.
The Millionaires held a slight edge in shots on goal at 7-6 and corner kicks at 9-1.
Jensen Brown led the way for the Wildcat offense with 2 shots on goal while Trey Gentzel, Brayden Brungard, Naaman Conoway and Erick Hoy each had one shot to their credit.
The Central Mountain defense stood tall much of the night, turning the Millionaires away on several occasions with Gentzel, Garrett Hagaman, Seth Reese and Jason Killinger contributing quality defensive play to keep Williamsport from further success. CM goal keeper, Cy Probst had 5 saves on the night.
With the loss, Central Mountain falls to 2-5 on the season, 2-3 in the PHAC.
The Wildcats will have a day of rest and be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 will host Bellefonte. The JV game is slated for 10 a.m. with the varsity game to follow.
