CM Edged by ‘Sock 2-0 in Ty Yonkin Memorial Cup
WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – It was a tough season opener for the Central Mountain boys’ soccer squad as they were edged by Loyalsock 2-0 in a hard-fought first round game of the Ty Yonkin Memorial Classic Cup Tournament held at West Branch Fields.
It was a scoreless first period with both teams trading efforts to set up a score and both defenses turned those efforts away to face a 0-0 score at intermission.
‘Sock would finally find a couple of creases late in the second period two put up their two goals and hold on the the lead for the win. The Lanceers had a slight edge in the offensive stats with 10 shots on goal to 7 for Central Mountain.
For the Wildcats, Jensen Brown led the offense with 3 shots on goal followed by Trey Gentzel with 2 while Alec Leuthold and Steven Giordano had 1 shot on goal each in the game.
Defensively, Cy Probst collected 6 saves in the game for the Wildcats in his first varsity start at goalkeeper.
