Lady Wildcats Drill ‘Toona; Now 13-3

cm-softballALTOONA — The last week or so has been a good one for the Central Mountain softball team, especially against possible District 6 playoff opponents.

The Lady Wildcats Tuesday finished a run of the regular season table against their three district Quad-A foes, the most recent win a 20-5 5-inning triumph at Altoona.

The verdict over the Lady Mountain Lions follows a Monday 13-7 win at State College and a 10-0 whitewashing of Mifflin County last Saturday.

One night after collecting 19 hits in 7-innings against State, the Lady Cats continued to bring the “sticks” as they collected 20 hits in the 5-inning win at Altoona. Central Mountain jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the top of the first.  They continued to pile on runs in the next few frames, before the game ended by the 10-run rule after five.

The CM offense was led by Mariah Major, who went 4 for 5 with a home run and 5 RBI’s.  Jess Strouse only played a half an inning, but she went 2 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI.  The Lady Cats also got the opportunity to show their depth as Strouse’s replacement, Kim “Gus” Coder took over at shortstop and went 2 for 3 on the day and also made several fine defensive plays in field, including a diving double play.  Maddie “Mad Dawg” Brown also went 3 for 3 on the day.

In the circle, Emily Strouse picked up the win after settling in.  She was relieved in the fourth by Brown who finished the last two innings of work.  CM moves to 13-3 on the season.

CM, now 13-3, travels to St. Marys on Friday for the final Central Penn League (CPL) game of the season.  5-0 in the CPL, the Lady Wildcats can earn the league title with a win. Williamsport is 5-1 in league play, but Central Mountain won the head-to-head matchup with the Lady Millionaires.
