Lady Wildcats Celebrate Senior Night with 2-1 Win over Jersey Shore
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was a tight defensive struggle the whole way through and two early goals for Central Mountain proved to be enough as the Lady Wildcats edged Jersey Shore by a 2-1 score on Thursday’s Senior Night at Malinak Stadium.
It was only appropriate that two Central Mountain seniors scored for coach Cole Black’s team. The first goal came at the 34:00 mark when Macy Akeley, off a pass from Sloane Tressler, found the Jersey Shore goalkeeper out of position and booted the ball home; for the senior Akeley it was her first goal of the season. Then at 25:31 of the first half Hunter Barger fed Sadie McCaleb who punched in her eighth goal of the season and Central Mountain had a 2-0 lead.
But ‘Shore would not roll over and got on the board off a penalty kick from Madison Maihle, one of four freshmen starting for the Lady Bulldogs. That made the score 2-1 with 19:57 remaining in the first half and despite occasional pressure from the visitors, that would prove to be the final.
Jersey Shore had an edge in shots on goal at six to four and the game only saw one corner kick, that by Central Mountain. Lady Wildcat senior goalkeep Alyssa Dickey made several key stops during the course of the night.
The win snapped a CM 4-game losing streak and was the second over Jersey Shore, winning 3-0 at ‘Shore in September. The Lady Wildcats, now 4-10, will next be in action next Tuesday, Oct. 10, visiting Shikellamy (12-2). Jersey Shore dropped to 3-11 with the loss.
