Heverly Pitches No-Hitter for Penn State DuBois
DUBOIS — Central Mountain 2015 grad, Kenny Heverly, had everything working for him on the mound for Penn State DuBois on Sunday. The result was a near-perfect six inning no-hitter for Heverly, part of a 10-0 PSU DuBois win over PSU New Kensington at Showers’ Field.
Heverly was in command from the start, facing 19 batters, one over the minimum for the six inning contest. The only New Kensington base runner got on through a two-out walk in the top of the first. Other than that, Heverly piled up nine strikeouts and allowed only one ball, a line out to center in the third inning, to leave the infield.
PSU DuBois coach Tom Calliari was left almost speechless in postgame comments to the DuBois Courier: “Kenny Heverly, what can you say…a no-hitter. He came in and threw strikes, and all of our pitchers threw strikes today and gave our guys a chance to play defense.”
The 10-0 first game win was part of a sweep over New Kensington, a first-year program. The second game went to DuBois by a 13-3 score, the game two triumph sparked by a grandslam homerun from Heverly’s former Central Mountain teammate, Clayton Butler, a sophomore at PSU DuBois. Butler, a conference all-star selection a year ago, also had a 2-RBI double in game one.
Another CM grad, freshman Talon Falls, played in the infield in both games and had a double and run scored in game one and went 1-of-1 with three walks in game two. Yet another former Wildcat, sophomore Bryce Hanley, is a pitcher for the team but did not see action Sunday. Hanley is also the heavyweight wrestler for the DuBois school.
