Lady Wildcats Top Shamokin 2-1
WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain (1-3) snapped their 3 game losing streak with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Shamokin in Heartland Conference action.
The Lady Cat’s fell behind early 1-0 when Shamokin scored first at the 9:30 mark.
Central Mountain found a way to answer back when Mackenzie Walsh sent a high, looping kick that caught the Shamokin keeper out of position with ball dropping into the goal just under the3 cross bar at the 34:11 mark.
Both teams threatened with scoring attempts in the second period, though the score remained 1-1 all until 44:22 in the game when Sloane Tressler connected at point-blank range on a crossing pass from Tara Reese.
Then the Lady Wildcat defense led by keeper, Alyssa Dickey (5 saves) stiffened and kept the visitors from scoring for the remainder of the contest.
Statically, Shamokin held a bit of advantage leading 16-11 for shots on goal 5-6 on saves and tied with CM 5-5 on corner kicks.
The game was played at the West Branch Soccer complex as a showcase event during the break between the morning and afternoon sessions of the Central Mountain junior high tournament.
Next up, Central Mountain will travel to Jersey Shore on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
