cm-basketballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — Central Mountain boys’ basketball coach Scott Baker is hoping his Wildcat team can improve on last week’s showing against Altoona when the two teams meet in a District 6 semifinal playoff game at Tyrone this Wednesday night.

The Wednesday semifinal contest will be played at 7:30 p.m. at the Tyrone High School gym. It will be only Central Mountain’s second game since Feb. 8. The winner will advance to the championship game Saturday, Feb. 27 against defending champion State College (12-10); that game will be played at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson at 2 p.m.

Wednesday’s semifinal will be aired live on AM1230 WBPZ and therecord-online.

Baker was not pleased with the Wildcat showing in last Thursday’s 49-38 road loss at Altoona. The loss closed the regular season at 13-9 for Central Mountain, 10-12 for the Mountain Lions.

CM lives and dies on its perimeter play and that usual team strength wasn’t there at Altoona last week. The Wildcats missed their first nine shots and while they recovered to forge a 14-14 tie after one quarter, the rest of the game belonged to the home team.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was Brody Baker, 13; also scoring were Alex Garbrick, 10 and Cole Reeder, 5. Kyle Everhart scored 4 points with Wyatt Bumbarger, Landon Breon and Nick Carpenetti each scoring 2 points.
