“Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha” (John 11:1).
By the time Jesus and his disciples arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had died. When Martha heard that Jesus was there, she went to meet him, and said:
“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now, whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give to you.”
When Jesus told her that her brother would rise again, Martha did not realize that Jesus was about to raise Lazarus from the dead. She thought he was referring to “the resurrection at the last day.”
Then Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”
In answer to Jesus question as to whether she believed this, Martha mad a confession of faith. “yes, Lord,” she said, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who should come into the world.”
Have you made your confession of faith? If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. (Romans 10:9).
