The awards ceremony held on Friday had great energy as Pennsylvania Career and Technical schools gathered in the Great American Hall. The best of the best students in their respective training programs were waiting for the results. Keystone Central were seated in the front, and rightfully so. Keystone Central found themselves placed on the stage three different times. First with the Career Pathways group, placing first in their category leading them to a spot at the national competition in Atlanta, Georgia in June. Their project “Flippin’ Kitchens” showcased their skills to design and plan for a remodel of a Family and Consumer Science classroom. Next on the stage is Alaina Carnhan, Maitland Dilley and Leah Karstetter with their Community Service project “Pediatric Hygiene Clinic”. This group of sophomore students placed 3rd falling short of being able to go to nationals, but showcased a promising future for the next two years. The Health Knowledge Bowl team, made up of 4 seniors from the Health Assisting program, made their way on the stage, placing 1st and a spot to the national competition. This group’s success story is one for the books as this group grew over the past three years competing in this competition and made quite the finale for their senior year.
The SkillsUSA National Competition will be held June 23-27 in Atlanta, Georgia. Keystone Central CTC is making a mark. Last year, Keystone Central CTC sent four to the national conference resulting in a national winner, Sophia Dressler. Chelsea Grieb, advisor for SkillsUSA states “I am so proud of all the contestants, win or lose. We are really showing our state that Keystone Central CTC is one of the best career and technical centers in Pennsylvania. We are growing every year. This year we have nearly 100 members in our chapter and only adding more as we continue to add more programs”. The SkillsUSA theme this year is “Ignite your Potential” and Keystone Central CTC is doing just that for these students.
