School Board Commends CMHS Senior Emily Everett for Heroic Actions

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – High School Senior Emily Everett knows just what to do.

When an incident occurred earlier last month at Central Mountain High School involving a high school officer, Everett sprung into action.

“An incident occurred in the school district where an officer was injured,” Board President Roger Elling read aloud to the school board in a board meeting last month. “He was treated by our own senior student Emily Everett, who was one of the students that went to nationals last year with the SkillsUSA Competition for her work with acquiring and teaching about the Stop the Bleed Kits. She worked to help Officer Todd Brian to stop the bleeding. Emily is a trained EMT who spends half of the school day working at Geisinger. She helped Todd, took care of the bleeding, and informed the ambulance drivers that they needed to take him to the hospital in Williamsport and not Jersey Shore. We want to give a huge shout out to Emily for stepping up in the time of need.”

School board member Butch Knauff reiterated Roger’s sentiments, adding that it would be nice to see Emily in front of the school board at a future meeting to commend her personally for her actions.

Well, at the April 10 Voting Meeting, Emily was presented with a certificate of appreciation for her quick actions and work to stabilize Officer Todd.

“In my 14 year career on this school board this is one of the better things I have seen happen,” board member Butch Knauff said. “Officer Brian was injured while performing his duties at the high school and through the chaotic events we had a student, Emily, use real-world applications to stand up and help stabilize the officer and render first aid before the ambulance arrived.”

Superintendent Dr. Francis Redmon added his sentiments to the moment, saying that, “we really appreciate your quick thinking and actions to use what you know to help someone out who needed it. It is a testament to your integrity and what you learned here and on the job as an EMT. We are so happy you are a part of our team.”
