MILLER CLAIMS MID-WINTER MAYHEM TITLE LADY WILDCATS 15th

INDIANA UNIVERSITY, PA: Senior Ashlynn Miller went 4-0 enroute to claiming the 235 pound championship at the Mid-Winter Mayhem Tournament on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Lady Wildcats finished in 15th place out of 36 teams. The Lady Wildcats also had a runner-up in Kendall Wagner at 170 and a third place finisher in Austynn Falls at 148 pounds. 

Miller earned her way into the finals with a fall over Alex Gosnell of North Allegheny in 1:41 of their semifinal match. In the finals, Miller recorded another fall, this time over Kiah Greenawalt of Punxsutawney in 4:49 of their championship bout, Miller leading 7-6 at the time of the fall. 

Wagner earned her way into the championship finals with a fall over local rival Grace Crestani of Bald Eagle Area. Wagner had lost two previous bouts to Crestani earlier this season, but this time recorded the fall in 1:52 of their first period bout between the two state place winners. 

In the finals, Wagner ran into defending state champion Jael Miller of Punxsutawney, who won a state title and placed second in the state before winning her first PIAA sanctioned state title last season. Miller took down Wagner and pinned the Lady Wildcat in 44 seconds of the first period. 

Falls dropped her semifinal bout to Jordyn Fouse of Bishop McCort by a 21-2 technical fall, but bounced back and won her consolation semifinal bout by pinning Alyssa Parona of Kiski Area in 47 seconds of the second period. In her third place bout, Falls won a 10-7 decision over Kiah Greenawalt of Punxsutawney for her bronze medal. 

The Lady Wildcats had three other team members in the tournament, as senior Jacey Tripp (235) posted a 1-2 mark, while sophomore Kaitlyn Scarborough-Perez (112) and freshman Mallory Wunder both went 0-2 in the tournament. 

Parkland won the team title with 144.5 points, while Montgomery was second with 112 points and Corry rounded out the top three teams with 97 points. The Lady Millionaires of Williamsport finished in sixth place with 81 points and the Lady Wildcats finished in 15th place with 63 points. 

The next action for the Lady Wildcats will be next Saturday, January 11th, when they will be in the 13-team Lady Mountie Invitational Tournament at Philipsburg-Osceola High School. On Saturday January 25th they will be in the 16-team Bald Eagle Area Tournament.
