Tree Lighting Sparkles in Castanea
The Castanea Township Recreation Committee, Fire Company, Supervisors and community gathered Friday, November 29th for the Annual Tree Lighting at the corner of Brown Street and Jarrett Avenue in the village.
The event featured performances by the Central Mountain High School and Middle School “Overzealous Band Kids,” and soloist Amy Conklin Weaver with guitarist Todd Powlus along with a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The tree was donated by Tyler Bates, Kassie Rosemeier and Family, and Mathew and Amy Masorti and Family.
The event served as a way to promote the community and provide local residents photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus in their sleigh. In addition, a lighted Nativity display on Jarrett Avenue was donated by resident George Conklin. Santa’s Mailbox was also unveiled. The Committee added burn barrel fires to warm cold hands and a portable ice skating rink.
The Fire Company showcased their new truck and residents were able to view it up close. Music, hot chocolate and spotlights for the event were supplied by the fire company. The Committee also sold Castanea history books and keepsake ornaments.
