Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The Lord puts down those who are mighty from their high positions, and he exalts those who are in low positions. He fills those who are hungry and those who are rich he sends away empty. (Luke 1:52,53)

Who are the hungry that are filled. In his sermon on the mount, Jesus said, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

It has been said that the world is made up of two Kinds of people. There are those who always see the glass as half empty, and those who always see the glass as half full.

The pessimist sees the glass as half empty. He that sees the glass as half full is an optimist. Which one are you?

A story is told about two buckets which were sitting by a well talking. One of the buckets was a pessimist. The other bucket was an optimist.

“There has never been a life that is as disappointing. as mine,” said the pessimistic bucket. “I never come away from the well full but what I return again empty.”

“Mine is a happy life!” the optimistic bucket exclaimed. “I’ve never come to the well empty but what I go away full again.”

We can sing, and pray, this Little Chorus written by Richard Blanchard:
“Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it Lord! Come and quench this thursting of my soul. Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more. Fill it up and make me whole!”
