LHU Lacrosse soars past Edinboro on Senior Day
LOCK HAVEN– The Lock Haven lacrosse team took care of business on Senior Day as the Bald Eagles downed Edinboro, 19-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division showdown on Saturday afternoon (April 27).
Prior to the contest, the Lock Haven lacrosse team honored seniors Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley), Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville), Abby Hampson (Adamstown, Md./Tuscarora), Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), Maddy Lapiana (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Kelsey Schultz (Camphill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) for their contributions and dedication to the program.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 13-3 overall and 8-3 in the PSAC East. Lock Haven is currently in third place in the Western Division and, at press time, can still slide into the second spot with help around the conference and a victory in the season finale.
The Haven also improves to 6-2 in front of the home crowd at Charlotte E. Smith Field.
The afternoon was as special as the senior class, as the Bald Eagles soared past Edinboro by scoring a game-high 19 goals and allowing just one score, coming in the final period. The Bald Eagles erupted for seven goals in the first quarter to set the tone and never looked back.
Shaffer and Katrinak led the way on offense for Lock Haven as both secured hat-tricks, while Katrinak also dished out an assist, totaling four points.
Emma Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus) also racked up four points, while Williams dished out a team-high three assists and Baskot secured a team-high six draw controls.
Hampson was electric in her final home game, as the senior scored twice, dished out an assist and secured five draw controls.
Lexi Bunk (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and Kaitlyn Collins (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) both scored twice, while Collins scooped up a team-high three ground balls and Bunk dished out two assists.
Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) (two assists) and Mackenna Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) rounded out the goal scorers.
In her final regular-season home game for the Bald Eagles, Mirigliano was excellent in net, allowing just one score, while making six saves and picking up a pair of ground balls.
