SEASON OF DESTINY
The Bald Eagles dropped their first game of the season in a one-sided affair, 79-66, against Fairmont State in early November.
With a fairly young roster, the team could go one of two ways, either enter panic mode or come back with vengeance. Lock Haven chose the latter.
What would ensue would make history. Lock Haven rattled off a program-record 19 straight victories, which included two nationally-ranked upsets and a perfect 6-0 record against the PSAC West.
The Bald Eagles jumped out to a four-game lead in the Eastern Division with a 14-0 conference record, and jumped on the national scene with their first national ranking in over three decades.
Lock Haven lost its first conference game to the second seed in the PSAC tournament, West Chester, and responded exactly how they did earlier in the season by winning seven straight to finish the regular season as the PSAC Eastern Division Championships.
The Bald Eagles finished the season 26-2 overall and 21-1 in the PSAC East. The 26 victories are tied for the most for the program in 24 years, while the 21 Eastern Division wins are the most all-time.
Lock Haven swept every divisional opponent but one, while going undefeated in the West.
The Bald Eagles finished the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record in front of the home crowd.
Lock Haven also finished the regular season with the 23rd ranking in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), 14th ranking in the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and No. 4 ranking in the NCAA DII Atlantic Region poll.
SERIES PRIMER
Wednesday marks the third meeting of the season between The Haven and the Marauders, with the Bald Eagles sweeping the regular-season series 2-0. Lock Haven won on the road, 66-54, back on January 31, before downing Millersville at home on the final game of the season, 58-37.
The Marauders earned the fourth seed in the tournament by finishing with a 10-12 record in conference play. Millersville took down the No. 5 seed ESU on Monday, 59-52, to earn Wednesday’s contest at Lock Haven.
Millersville is led by 6-0 forward Makiah Shaw, who is averaging 13.0 points-per-game and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The Bald Eagles will look to take advantage of the Marauders’ road-woes this season, where Millersville went 4-10 away from its home crowd.
Lock Haven will look to avenge a first-round loss in last season’s tournament to No. 3 seed Kutztown.
