Bucks suffer setback in 50-45 loss to South Williamsport

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL- Bucktail’s boys basketball team was looking to make big strides in the current playoff standings on Saturday afternoon. A victory over 2A South Williamsport would have solidified their hold on the final home quarterfinal spot, but the visiting Mounties had playoff aspirations of their own.

The Mounties would use a strong first half and take advantage of poor Bucktail shooting to build a 29-20 lead at the break.

The Bucks opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run to regain the lead, but South Williamsport would never go away. South Williamsport led 39-38 going into the final frame.

The Bucks rally attempt would be diminished when both Brody Pentz and Johnny Green would foul out on with under 2 minutes remaining in the contest.

An 11-7 fourth quarter advantage from the visitors would set the final.

Brody Pentz led all scorers with 19 points and collected 12 rebounds. Braylon Fantaski would finish with 13 points in the contest.

Jordan Baier led the Mounties with 16 points.

South Williamsport improved to 6-11 on the season, while the Bucks dropped to 8-9.

Bucktail’s next contest will be on Wednesday when they travel to St. John Neumann (9-8).
