Muncy closing in on MPC East title following 78-38 win at Bucktail

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL- Muncy continued their dominance over the Mid Penn Conference East Division with a commanding 78-38 win at Bucktail on Wednesday evening.

The Indians would utilize four double figure scorers and press the Bucks into submission. 24 Bucktail turnovers proved to be one deciding factors.

Muncy jumped out to a 14-4 lead with 2 minutes left in the first quarter when Noah Confer would score a three-point basket that followed a steal and layup by Confer. Confer led Muncy with a game-high 19 points and proved to be a burden for Bucktail all night.

Brett Mason would account for all 8 Bucktail points in the first quarter, but his team still trailed 19-8 after one quarter.

Muncy’s overall dominance continued throughout the game. A 23-8 second quarter, followed by a 20-12 third quarter would give the Indians a 62-31 lead to send the game into the mercy rule in the fourth quarter.

Muncy’s final 16-7 fourth quarter edge would set the final score.

Brett Mason would once again score in double figures for the third straight contest, netting 15 points. Mason was commended for his hard play by head coach Travis Fantaskey.

“Brett played hard, he’s been playing good for us.” said Fantaskey

Brody Pentz added 10 points, Johnny Green netted 7 and Braylon Fantaski would add 6 points.

Bucktail failed to connect on a single three-point field goal after drilling a season-high 14 against Benton on Thursday night.

Nathan Rogers added 13 points for Muncy. Konnor Shearer chipped in 11 points and Stiles Eyer finished with 10. Muncy improved to 14-4 on the season and pulled to within one victory of capturing the division title and set up a meeting with Northwest in the MPC title game.

Bucktail, now 8-8 will have a major rematch on Saturday with South Williamsport in an attempt to avenge their 1-point, final second loss at South back in December. The game with the Mounties is set to take place from Farwell at 5:30.

Bucktail’s JV team defeated Muncy 51-47 in overtime prior to the varsity contest.
