Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

Zechariah the prophet saw a series of visions from the Lord that showed him what was in store for Israel in the future. One of these visions is found in Zechariah 3.

The Lord showed him Joshua the high of Jerusalem standing before the angel of the Lord. Satan was also there to accuse him. He was rebuked by the Lord.

In the vision, Joshua the high priest represented the nation of Israel, God’s chosen people. He was clothed with filthy garments. as he stood before the angel.

“Take away the filthy garments from him,” the angel said. “Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with a change of raiment.”

The taking away of the filthy garments is a picture of the future justification and salvation of the nation of Israel. Israel will be restored to her original calling, according to the notes in the MacArthur Study Bible.

In Revelation 7:9, John beheld great multitude which could not be numbered. They all stood before the Lord, clothed with white robes.

John was told, “These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (V.14).
