Otto-Eldred holds Bucktail’s offense in check in 20-14 Terror victory
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL, PA- Friday night’s clash in Farwell between Otto-Eldred and Bucktail resembled nothing like the first meeting between the two teams in Duke Center earlier this season. That game would see tons of offense and a lot of scoring in the Terrors’ 57-48 victory. Otto-Eldred got the win 20-14 over Bucktail on Homecoming.
During their first game earlier this season the Bucks would pound out over 400 yards of total offense. This time around, the Terrors were ready for the Bucks by limiting them to a season-low 228 rushing yards and just 14 total points, another season-low.
Bucktail began the night pounding out their ground game, which was powered by Brett Mason to start. Mason’s four carries for 20 yards and a 17 yard run from Brody Pentz would lead to a 5-yard score from Pentz and a 6-0 Bucktail lead.
Otto-Eldred quarterback Shane Magee would test the Bucks’ secondary all night long, but on the Terrors’ first possession of the game Magee would be picked off by Jaden Intallura.
The ensuing Bucktail drive would fizzle and that would remain the case for the remainder of the first half and a majority of the second half.
Magee would have success against the Bucks when he would find Dawson Welch wide open on a 21-yard scoring strike. A failed conversion attempt would see the score knotted at 6-6 after one quarter.
Magee would light up Bucktail in the second quarter with a pair of scoring strikes. The first would be a 43-yard strike to Shene Thomas and the next would be a 22-yard strike to David Schenfield. A pair of Carter Wolfe PAT’s would have the visitors up 20-6 at the break.
The homecoming halftime at Bucktail would see Brett Mason crowned king and Giada DeMarte crowned homecoming queen for 2023.
Otto-Eldred began the second half with the ball, but Bucktail’s defense continued to play improved football. They limited talented Otto running back Hunter App to just 33 yards on 11 carries.
Shane Magee would pick up a few second half completions, but Bucktail would not allow another big play throughout the scoreless third quarter.
Pentz and the Bucks would put together a late fourth quarter drive that was orchestrated by Pentz on the ground and his ability to find Braylon Fantaski through the air.
Fantaski would catch passes of 23 yards, 5 yards and 15 yards, which would eventually set up a 14 yard touchdown run by Pentz. Pentz’s two-point run narrowed the gap to 20-14 with just 1:58 remaining in the game.
Bucktail’s onsides kick attempt would be recovered by Otto-Eldred. The Terrors would use the victory formation to leave Farwell with the 20-14 win.
Otto-Eldred improved to 6-2 on the season. Bucktail would fall to 5-3 on the season, with a date this coming Friday against 5-3 Coudersport in Farwell.
